Support

I have attempted to make the system as easy to work with as possible. Sometimes problems arise that you may need help with.
You are welcome to contact me for any reason using the contact information on the CFK home page (CLICK HERE).

Also, the following sites may be of help to you. Many forums will let you ask questions and people will respond quite quickly.

The Internet Browser on these systems is called Firefox. It is similar to Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

I have attempted to install and configure as many components as I can so that you will be able to view most of the content on the Internet. You may find that there is some that just won't play. If that is the case it may just not be supported, but send me an e-mail with a link to the page and I will take a look and see if there is anything I can do to get it working. Use the e-mail address on the CFK home page (CLICK HERE).

Parental Control

Overview

The Parental Control system implemented on CFK computers is currently very simple and limited. Only limiting of web sites is implemented, and that is done through a program called Procon Latte.

Procon Latte

CFK computers use Procon Latte for parental control within the web browser. With Procon you can limit the user to viewing only Internet domains that you believe are appropriate. An example Internet domain is lego.com. If you tell Procon it's OK to view lego.com then the user can view anything on lego.com. The list of domains the user can see is called the "whitelist". If someone tries to access a site not on the whitelist, they will receive an error at which point the supervising user can enter a password and add the site to the whitelist if desired - or not.

I recommend you visit the Procon site and view the documentation at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1803

Procon Latte Installation

I have installed Procon Latte on the child account only. The parent account has no browsing restrictions. Keep this in mind if you use the parent account and walk away - consider logging out before you get up.

Procon Latte Configuration

Unless otherwise requested, I have preconfigured Procon Latte to be at it's strictest level - allowing only sites on the whitelist to be accessed. In this mode, you can go in and edit a simple list of domain names - the "whitelist" - that you want to be allowed. I will preconfigure a group of sites that I and others have suggested as safe for our youngsters. You can easily add as many other sites to your whitelist as you want!!!

DISCLAIMER:
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DECIDING WHAT YOU BELIEVE IS APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR CHILD. YOU SHOULD REVIEW THE WHITELIST THAT IS PRE-CONFIGURED AND REMOVE ANY AND ALL ITEMS AS YOU SEE FIT.
